The farm Milmark was originally built in the 1890`s and is located in the village of Laberg. Milmark was run traditionally with cows, sheep and goats, in combination with the traditional fisheries and hunting. In 2002, Lars Christian Berg took over the farm, originally to provide extra farmland for his sheep. However, the location proved to be a stunning one, perfectly suited for use as an arena for his brand of experiential group development seminars.
The name Laberg means ‘the rock to load/unload’, revealing that the village was a trading spot between the Vikings and the Sami people. The valley Labergdalen, begins inland and leads down to the village, provides an easy entry to the waters of the fjord. Laberg is also accessible by large boats.
The village Laberg is located in the community of Gratangen. The name Gratangen has its origin from the Viking Age and translates to ‘The Stone Fjord’. The name combines two ancient words; ‘Grat’ (stone) and ‘Angen’ (fjord). Today, Gratangen is still a community which primarily depends on farming and fisheries. However other knowledge based and mechanical industries are present and growing. The bonds nature is strong among the population and the outdoor activities varies due to the seasons. The highlights are mushrooms and berries early fall, moose and bird hunting at late fall, skiing throughout the winter, especially March and April, sailing and horseback riding at summer and fishing all year around.
